Hair Colour Service – FAQs
What’s the difference between Balayage and Foils?
Foils isolate fine sections of hair in foil packets, allowing precise lightening from root to tip. They’re perfect for bright blondes, highlights, and even grey blending.
Balayage is a hand-painted technique that creates a softer, more natural sun-kissed effect with a seamless grow-out. It’s lower maintenance than foils and usually refreshed every 3–4 months, with toners in between.
What’s the difference between booking a Tint and a Toner/Gloss?
A Tint is a permanent colour, best for full grey coverage or regrowth.
A Toner is semi-permanent, used to refresh blondes, soften greys, or adjust tone after foils.
👉 Unsure? If you’re covering greys → book a Tint. If you’re refreshing blonde/foils → book a Toner.
How often should I book in for foils or colour?
Most clients rebook every 6–8 weeks for regrowth foils or grey coverage. Balayage can last longer (around 10–12 weeks) but we recommend a toner refresh every 4–6 weeks to keep your colour vibrant and fresh.
Will foils or colour damage my hair?
When done correctly with professional products, colour services should not compromise your hair. At BLOW we use Kevin Murphy Everlasting.Colour and recommend adding a K18 Deluxe or Premium Treatment to all colour services to repair and protect your hair’s strength during chemical work.
How should I prepare for my colour appointment?
Arrive with dry, clean hair free from heavy products.
Bring inspiration images if you have a particular shade or style in mind.
If you’re booking a colour correction, book a consultation first so we can assess your hair and plan your transformation.
How do I maintain my colour at home?
Use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, plus purple toning products if you’re blonde to keep brassiness away. Regular in-salon toners and treatments will extend your colour.
👉 We stock Kevin Murphy colour care and K18 homecare so you can keep your colour salon-fresh between visits.
What should I book if I’m not sure?
If you’re unsure which colour service you need, book the appointment that feels closest (for example, Half Head Foils or Tint Regrowth) and add a note at checkout. Our stylists will always do a thorough consultation at the start of your appointment and adjust the service if needed.
👉 If it’s been more than 6 months since your last colour, or you’re wanting a big change, book a Full Head Foils or Colour Correction to allow enough time.
